Keynote speaker: Rowena Phair, CEO, Ministry of Women's Affairs.

Women in New Zealand:
- How well are we really doing?
- Is New Zealand still a world leader on gender equality?
- Why is this relevant for improving economic growth?

Rowena Phair took up her current role as Chief Executive of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs in July 2010. Her priorities are to continually improve the relevance and impact of the Ministry’s policy advice; ensure the Ministry reflects contemporary perspectives and models best practice in operational efficiencies.

Rowena has significant experience in central government policy processes. She has held policy leadership roles in the Treasury, the Ministry of Education and Housing Corporation New Zealand. She has worked closely with Ministers, practitioners, academics and non-government organisations. She has represented New Zealand in international fora and has contributed to cross-country projects led by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

In addition, Rowena has had stints in the private sector, as a senior consultant for KPMG, and as a trainer. In the latter role, she worked as part of a State Services Commission team in the late 1980s to coach public sector managers to apply the newly introduced State Sector Act and Public Finance Act.

Rowena was born and grew up in Auckland. She went to Auckland University where she gained a Bachelor of Arts in economics and political studies and a Master of Arts in economics. She now, however, considers herself a Wellingtonian. Her interests include tramping; running; cooking and socialising, preferably whilst listening to very good jazz; knitting beautiful garments for friends and family; and travelling in New Zealand and overseas as much as her and her partner’s schedules and budget allow!

The agenda is as follows:

12.15pm: Registrations close
