A trio of emerging young artists presents a lunchtime song recital - "Pictures from New York" - in the heart of Newmarket.

Guest artist James Ioelu (baritone) is home on vacation from opera studies at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, and is joined onstage by soprano Marlena Devoe. Marlena has recently been awarded a place at the same prestigious school, and joins James in New York in September. Fellow University of Auckland voice student Tania Priebs (soprano) will also contribute to the programme of operatic arias and arts songs. The singers will be accompanied by pianist Rosemary Barnes.

Opera Factory’s winter series of Sunday lunch recitals run from June to September and offer affordable opportunities to enjoy emerging young singers and guest artists in a comfortable and accessible fringe theatre. James Ioelu and Marlena Devoe have performed at Opera Factory in various principal roles, concerts and master classses in past years.

This recital is a rare opportunity to hear them both before they depart for postgraduate studies at one of the most prestigious opera training institutions in America, the Manhattan School of Music. Tania Priebs is an emerging singer studying voice at the University of Auckland and is also a NBR NZ Opera Chapmann Tripp chorus member. Rosemary Barnes has had an extensive career in London, including eight years on the music staff of English National Opera, and continues a busy schedule of professional coaching, adjudicating and accompaniment for national or visiting voice and instrumental artists and career music students throughout New Zealand.

The Opera Factory theatre is situated around the corner from Broadway, and easily accessible to car parks and public transport.
