Doug Wright, Craig Reeves and Marcel Rodeka return to Dunedin’s classic Mayfair Theatre for another “Oxo Cubans Big Night Out”.

Building on the success of last year’s concert and the release of their “Live at Isis” CD, the three veteran musicians are continuing to mentor and develop ongoing opportunities for local artistes while promoting Dunedin’s exceptional and diverse musical talent.

More than 150 musicians and singers can claim to have been an Oxo Cuban over the band’s 18-year career, but the permanent core of the band is Reeves, who toured with, amongst others, The Bellamy Brothers while based in America, Rodeka, who went to Australia and found fame with Mother Goose, and seasoned local keyboardist Wright.

"On stage with us at the Mayfair in March will again be an exciting combination of experience and youth” says Rodeka, “a mixture of professional and amateur performers and musicians who cover a wide range of styles.

New artistes taking part include the dynamic 20 year old South African born soul & gospel singer Annelise Le Grange, who sang at an Oxo Open mic night at the Isis lounge and blew everyone away...

The gifted singer songwriter Kristin Macdonald, who won the 2010 NZ Secondary Schools Play it Strange national songwriting competition and her 14 year old sister Rita...

And our latest Oxo discovery, outstanding 18 year old Dunedin musician & blues singer Georgie Daniell. "All of these young artistes have the potential to be world class performers”.

Rounding out the guest artist roster and bringing a wealth of international experience to the concert are three of the South’s finest male vocalists.

Dave Horizon, the man with the satin voice, will pay homage to the era of classic R & B with “The Magic of Motown”. Returning by popular demand is recording artist Jeff Rea and William Davidson, the Oxo Cubans Big Band original lead singer.

Both Jeff & William are joined throughout the concert by Dunedin’s celebrated Sunny Side Up Gospel Choir.

Adding various keyboards to the Oxo rhythm section are two of New Zealand’s most respected film & television composers, multiple award winning Neville Copland and Graeme Perkins from Natural History NZ.

Leading the guitar section is longtime Oxo guitarist John Meddings and internationally acclaimed bassist Dr Rob Burns, Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago’s Music Faculty.

They are joined by Scott Colvin and Justin Van De Water, two of Dunedin’s emerging young guitarists.

Completing the band lineup is 18 year old saxophonist Genevieve Davidson and livewire young lead harmony singer Jahmaine Cummings.

“Dunedin has many gifted performers making great music,” says musical director Doug Wright. “These concerts are a win-win-win. The wonderful Mayfair gets a whole new audience, young musicians are mentored and get vital playing experience and the Otago Community Hospice benefits from the sale of refreshments on the night. We plan to have more Oxo Mayfair concerts throughout the year.”

Tickets available from: The Rockshop, The Ra Bar, Beggs Musicworks & The Butterflies Hospice Shops (Dunedin & Mosgiel).

Theatre "Green Room" Bar open pre-show, half-time & for the after concert party.
