A comedy/drama written by NZ playwright Carl Nixon and directed by Terri de’Ath, the play contains much Crumpy-style humour but also moments of sadness as it touches on the relationships with the humans in Barry’s life – his father, his mother and brother, his wives, partners and his children, along with some of the incidents in his life that affected him deeply.

However, this play is not a biography simply outlining the events of Barry’s life, nor is it written as a form of documentary or exposé. It is simply a piece of drama based on the life of one of New Zealand’s most prominent citizens whose weathered face and bass voice are ingrained into the New Zealand psyche.
