St Theresa’s School in Plimmerton is again staging their much-anticipated carnival – this year with a fun ‘green’ twist, a celebration not just of St Patrick's Day but of all things eco-friendly.

Principal Zita Smith is looking forward to staging what is always a much wider community event. “This year we’re going green, which includes the best of St Patrick and Ireland, and also environmentally friendly! This fits in nicely with our current topic of Inquiry, which is looking into ideas of ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ and the impact of waste on our local environment. Our school community is really excited about this year’s colourful ‘green’ theme, and it will be a very visual, fun-filled day for all”.

Leading a full – and entirely free - entertainment programme will be talented local band ‘Hobnail Boots’ who will entertain with their signature mix of ‘soaring songs, furious fiddling, beautiful ballads, and fabulous folk filled Celtic country creations’. Champion dancers from the Kerry School of Irish Dance will also perform on the central stage, amongst other performers throughout the day.

As always the school will live up to its legendary carnival theming, visitors will be treated to an amazing array of ‘green’ decorations, costumes and festivities, including prizes for the best dressed.

Littlies will be spoilt for choice with the farmyard corner, horse rides as well as a merry-go-round, bouncy castle and some entirely new games! Older kids will be kept entertained with mini jeeps and lots of traditional games such as money golf and the coconut shy. The police, ambulance service and fire service will also be on hand to give demonstrations with their emergency vehicles.

The St Theresa’s Carnival is renowned for its top quality bargains for sale and this year is no exception – with quality used books, toys, and clothing on sale as well as nifty crafts and white elephant items. For the sweet-toothed delicious homemade sweets and freshly baked cakes will also be available.

There will be quick fire raffles all day – with some fantastic prizes - so visitors can look out for some really outstanding bargains.

Food will be good value too at the international foodcourt (including Irish, Thai curries and a variety of Chinese) and there will be the ever-popular traditional carnival fare.

St Theresa’s School is situated opposite Palmers on SH1 in Plimmerton. Parking is free and the carnival fun will go ahead rain or shine (though there may be some alterations to the entertainment programme in the event of inclement weather – visitors can check the carnival website for details on the day).
