The Art of Science features paintings from the Royal Society of New Zealand’s fascinating private collection of portraits of prominent past and present scientists.

The exhibition marks the first time that this significant collection of 57 portraits of New Zealand scientists has been gathered in one place and shown to the public. It includes interpretive text telling the stories of the scientists – their innovations and successes.

Scientists featured in the collection include New Zealand's three Nobel Prize winners - Alan MacDiarmid, Ernest Rutherford, Maurice Wilkins - as well as Wellingtonian Paul Callaghan, James Hector, Ernest Marsden, Thomas Easterfield and Vaughan Jones.

A DNA portrait of a prominent scientist is a striking feature of the exhibition, and is one of the first times this type of portrait has been shown in New Zealand.

The Art of Science is curated by award winning science writer Rebecca Priestley.

It is proudly sponsored by Resene Paints.
