New Zealand’s #1 character impressionist hits the 2011 NZ International Comedy Festival in what will be his most defining stand up show yet.

In his 4th solo Festival show "People", Simon delivers his diversity and unparalleled artistry with an incredible array of new impressions born from characters that have inspired him throughout his life and career. These folk and their hilarious faults and foibles, strengths and stresses (that we all identify with!) take centre stage for 5 Auckland shows only at this year’s Festival.

In "People", Simon juxtaposes unlikely combinations in outrageous situations that see the characters interacting with each other, and Simon himself! Old ladies, Columbian drug lords, TV celebrities, small children, farmers, classic international and Kiwi stereotypes - make for scenarios of the oddest kind.

McKinney discovered his unique talents when only 10 years old, keeping his friends and family chuckling. Encouraged by his parents, Simon went onto build a career for himself in comedy which has seen him perform all over New Zealand, including a 2 year stint on the UK comedy circuit.

Simon's previous characters have been celebrated time and time again by the New Zealand public, up and down the country and on national television. These include the 'thankyou' lady from the supermarket, the old women at a rock concert, “that drunk guy” and his celebrity impersonations including Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the Queen.

Simon has appeared in numerous televised Comedy Gala’s as part of the Comedy Festival and TV3’s “AotearoHA” series. In 2010 Simon also appeared in and took the character of “Rachel”, (Rhys Darby’s receptionist) in TV2’s “Comedy Christmas Cracker – The Work Do” as well as TVNZ’s “New Zealand’s Variety Show” and appearances in TV2’s hit show “A Night At The Classic”. Simon is a past Billy T Nominee, winner of the “Best Male Comedian” Award at the 2007 NZ Comedy Guild Awards and in 2010 was awarded the "Reilly Comedy Award", by the Variety Artists of New Zealand.

20 years in the making, "People" is set to showcase Simon’s remarkable talents with over 20 characters and voices involved in delightful twists and hysterical transformations, turning them into the superstars he sees them to be. Be amazed at what could possibly be the largest cast assembled for a “solo” Comedy Festival show ever.

“Look at these people around you, it really is the greatest show on earth” - Simon McKinney’s Dad, c.1988.

"Simon McKinney is a New Zealand comedy gem", - tvnz.co.nz
