East of the Himalaya: The Alps of Tibet and Beyond.

Famous Japanese climber and explorer Tomatsu Nakamura will be in Christchurch to speak on his celebrated journeys into the mountains of East and South East Tibet and Western China. Nakamura is widely regarded as the world’s expert on what is essentially the last great unclimbed mountain region left today.

Over the last 20 years Nakamura has made more 30 exploratory journeys to map and photograph the “Alps of Tibet” and has travelled the world giving lectures on his discoveries. He has helped many climbers (including Kiwis) find unclimbed peaks for their expeditions and says there remain vast opportunities for true exploration and virgin climbing amongst the mountains of Western China / Eastern Tibet for those willing to leave the beaten track.

Nakamura is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

This is an opportunity to hear a world class speaker and explorer of the true old fashioned genre, and see some outstanding images. Seated by 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale at the NZAC National Office, 6 Raycroft St, Opawa and at at Bivouac, Tower Junction. Online sales:
