Celebrate New Year's Eve 2011 with us at the Whangamata Summer Festival!

Sponsored by NZCT, Mile High will take the stage with special guests Transit of Venus, from 8pm. NZCT is a community trust whose aims of building strong communities align nicely with our own aims of providing a safe place for people to come together and have fun with friends and whanau over the festive season. NZCT have also sponsored an awesome light show for this evening, with smoke and lasers - the works! We are looking forward to this!

It's the energetic, upbeat, hook-laden rock that has thrown Auckland 5 piece Mile High into the limelight in recent times. Their sound captures a lively energy that pulls even the most timid souls onto the dance-floor with a live show leaves their audiences wanting more.

Formed in 2008, Mile High's first two singles were released to great acclaim gaining national radio and TV play. Their debut single "Now" went on to score a top 1000 spot on the Rock FM's 2009 Rock 1000. This success propelled their live show allowing them to perform live on TV3 Sunrise and the Big Night In telethon as well as being selected to play the 2010 Big Day Out and The Bog Band Fest in Christchurch supporting Midnight Youth and Dane Rumble.

In mid 2010 the band embarked on their own winter tour, playing numerous packed out venues around the country. Their sound has proved to be a hit and pull crowds not only in their hometown, but throughout New Zealand. Following the success of this tour the band appeared at numerous events throughout the country including The Grey Lynn Festival, Whangamata Summer Festival, Summerdaze New Years Eve Wanaka and Waitakere Sounds with The Earlybirds, Ivy Lies and Autozamm.

Their latest release "Down & Out" showcases the band's more serious side, focusing on more sober themes, but maintaining the upbeat and energetic sound that they are so well known for. The single was produced, engineered and mastered by Andrew Buckton at Studio 203 and was featured on The Rocks Off The Record in February 2011.

Mile High are Aditya Maharaj, Kevin Nolan, Paul Nolan, Christopher Chamberlain, and Quinton McMillan, who with an infectious sense of humour, thirst for fun and a love for music will soon be gracing your stage, stereo or TV.

Mile High has no affiliation to the infamous club nor do they frequent aeroplane bathrooms.

The Whangamata Summer Festival boasts free concerts nightly from December 29th 2011. The bands will be on stage at Williamson Park from 8pm. The Whangamata Summer Festival is run by a not for profit community group who fund raise all year round, in order to provide a focus for youth, young families, locals, holiday makers and the elderly, by staging night time concerts, volleyball competitions, skate competitions, a kids' holiday programme and a huge craft market day. This evening's music is the 4th night of a five night programme with a range of musical genres - something for everyone's taste!

Please note: A public liquor ban will be enforced throughout the holiday period.

Entertainment for the Whangamata Summer Festival week is proudly brought to you by sponsors: NZCT, the Lion Foundation, Southern Trust, The Whangamata Community Board, Trust Waikato, Sky City Hamilton Trust, plus more rolling in! We are supported also by Pitcher Electrical Whangamata, Whangamata Wellness, Take Note Whangamata, Whangamata Signs, plus many volunteers and community members without whom, it could not be a free event.
