Calling all artists to exhibit or create sculpture art. Register your interest today.

The aim is to have fun and to encourage people of any age who may never have thought about creating a sculpture before to have a go. Sculpture is in everybody. You may be a carver of sand stone, bone, wood, brick, tin almost anything. A potter, glass, mosaic or ceramic artist, sewer, painter, a creator using recycled materials or natural resources. The possibilities are endless.

If you are interested in participating, exhibiting or showcasing your works, or require further information please contact Kaikohe community ARTS council: email artinkaikohe@yahoo.co.nz or phone Jill on (09) 4057816.

There is no theme for the artwork, although there is a strong desire that the artwork reflect the cultural arts, diversity of our community and its creativity. There are no recommended materials, but the artist should consider the viability of the work’s structure and appearance and ability to be displayed outdoors.

Selected sculptures may be installed in the community area and will serve as major visual anchor points, community identity and a statement that creativity and art are of vital importance to our existence.

An important aspect of locating the artwork in the town area is to provide the identity as a cultural arts district, complement surrounding businesses and support the town rejuvenation efforts. We are also looking at a People's Choice Award, with the most voted sculpture having a permanent placing, or temporary, depending on the artist. This allows the public to engage in sculpture, discussion, demonstration and workshops should this be viable.

Over the exhibition weekend, the public will have the chance to wonder around and explore one of Kaikohe’s outstanding attributes. You don’t have to be in the Hawke's Bay or Marlborough to experience greatness. A chance to meet the artists, view some magical creations, picnicking with your family and friends, a glass of wine in hand whilst enjoying a great line up of live entertainment.
