Why we should, and how we can, treat animals with compassion and respect. In this presentation Dr Murray provides an overview of the myriad of ways in which non human animals suffer in modern societies including factory farming, the use of animals in research, sport and entertainment, and the pet industry. She considers numerous ways in which people can and do speak up for animals and how we can work towards a world in which animals are treated with compassion and respect.

Mary is a long time animal advocate, She is also an academic - Mary is a senior lecturer in Sociology with the School of People, Environment and Planning at Massey University - and one of her major areas of research and teaching is the relationship between humans and animals in different societies.
