This concert is an opportunity for all music lovers to hear in the one varied programme some of the best loved masterpieces ever written for the violin. Each work represents a milestone and at the time, a breakthrough in the way the violin could be played and shows how much the violin has evolved over the centuries to the brilliant and expressive instrument we know and love today.

The Musicians:

Ray Ong, 14 years of age, started learning the violin at the age of 4. Currently a Year 10 student at Westlake Boys, he is a violin student of Robert Issell. He completed ABRSM grade 8 violin with distinction and has won prizes at the Knights Templar Music Competition in 2008 and 2009. In the 2010 West Auckland Performing Arts Competition, Ray won prizes in various classes with his performances which included the unaccompanied Bach and the complete Mendelssohn violin concerto. His performance experience included a one year stint with the Auckland Youth Orchestra as well as performing as a soloist at the Auckland Town Hall for the Auckland Primary Principals Association Music Festival.

Kent Isomura started playing the piano at the age of 6. He is currently a 2nd year student at the University of Auckland studying Piano Performance under the tutelage of Stephen de Pledge. Kent has been invited to perform at various venues. Last year he was invited to perform in the ‘Dame Malvina Major Foundation Show Case’ along with Dame Malvina Major herself. In 2009, Kent competed in the Australian International Music Festival as the pianist of the “Spiritoso Quintet”, which received a Gold award.
