From 22 March – 1 April 2012 a fabulous selection of French films will be gracing Havelock North screens at Cinema Gold during the Alliance Française French Film Festival.

Proudly sponsored by L’Oréal Paris, the Alliance Française French Film Festival offers a comprehensive national programme over five weeks and nine cities. The festival is the main French cultural event in New Zealand, and has an appeal that reaches far beyond the local French community.

For the first time in the festival’s history, the festival will be managed from the Alliance Française in Wellington and promoted by the large Alliance Française network around New Zealand. The Alliance is a non-profit organisation committed to promoting French language and culture worldwide.

The majority of films in the 2012 line-up have received much international critical acclaim including selections into Cannes, Toronto, London, São Paulo, San Sebastián festivals and nominations for Academy, César, and European Film Awards. Films such as Bertrand Bonnello’s controversial House of Tolerance and Donzelli’s Declaration of War started their successful journey at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, and ended up months later laden with César nominations and other accolades.

Other Festival highlights include Julie Delpy’s comedy The Skylab, and Catherine Deneuve in the latest Christophe Honore musical, Beloved.

Bon Festival!
