Democracy rules this year in the Auckland Youth Symphonic Band - the players have chosen the Concert Program!

The program will include the following:
- The symphonic suite from "Band of Brothers"
- "Pirates of the Caribbean"
- "Duke Ellingham"
- Beatles hits "Michelle", "Eleanor Rigby" and "Yesterday"

About the band:
The Band aims to provide performance opportunities for brass, woodwind and percussion players from all parts of Auckland. The players come from all parts of the city from Papatoetoe in the south to Whangapararoa in the north, and Swanson in the west to Howick in the east. Most of the AYSB players are at secondary school with some from university and the work force, and some from intermediate schools. We are united in our desire to have fun while playing great music.

The band performs a broad range of musical styles from marches (Hogan's Heroes), to big band jazz (Harlem Nocturne), to film themes (Pirates of the Caribbean) to classical (Mozart's Rondo for Oboe).

The conductor:
Veteran conductor Rod McLeay has been conducting the ASB since 1977. He says conducting the band keeps him young! He enjoys conducting the band because, to quote an eminent conductor, "Conducting is so much fun it's a wonder the Government doesn't tax it!".
