Heats have already been happening weekly in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington and Christchurch, with a few more heats to come. Semi finals start now, kicking off in Auckland and Mt Maunganui. Some fantastic talent has been on display, with many quality bands making it through to the semi-finals. More heats in Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown are coming soon. Each show features numerous bands performing, often an eclectic mix of musical styles ranging from folk to funk, urban to alt, rock, punk and metal... something for everyone. The crowd also gets to vote, with audience votes counting for 50% of the decisions; votes are added with scores from the judging panel made up of industry professionals & musicians. It’s well worth the cover charge to see some of NZ’s up and coming new music artists.

Come along & check out the live action!

43 live events are taking place at NZ’s best live music venues. 2012 venues are:
Juice Bar & The Kings Arms in Auckland, Outback Inn in Hamilton, Brewers Bar in Mt. Maunganui, Bogeda in Wellington, The Venue Music Bar in Christchurch and Dux De Lux in Queenstown.

Each venue hosts a series of heats, semi-finals and regional finals. Throughout the event, judging and voting determines each region’s champions; who then represent their region at the 2 night National Finals in Auckland on 31st August (Kings Arms) and 1st September (Juice Bar).

Over 100 bands have entered so far, with more registering daily. It’s not too late to enter, there are still some slots available at some venues; bands are advised to register now to ensure a placement. Previous Battle of the Bands winners & finalists include Jason Kerrison (Op Shop), Tadpole & Blindspott, to name just a few.

As well as gaining national attention, the winning band will receive a bevy of prizes including:
- Recording time at NZ’s premier recording facility York Street Studios;
- Musical equipment from Jansen, Allen & Heath and Audio Technica;
