A fantastic evening of entertainment from one of Christchurch's premier brass bands. Leopard Coachlines Canterbury Brass are looking forward to giving a fine evening’s entertainment as the featured artists in this year’s ‘Big Busk’ - a nationwide campaign that sees people taking to the streets busking to raise money for the Child Cancer Foundation.

The band are already hard at work putting the finishing touches to a fantastic programme of music featuring both the old and the new, the sublime and the ridiculous. As always, the paying public will be treated to the finest solo talent and as an added bonus we shall be giving the premiere of a new work written the band’s highly talented trombone player Dale Hounsome-Vail.

The concert also gives a great opportunity for those ‘networkers’ amongst you as there will be an extra long 40 minute interval with ‘nibbles and refreshments’ available, plenty of time then to get out there and mingle.

The guest conductor for the evening will be former musical director of the band Davey Boyes. Davey is an import from the UK, where he gained an excellent reputation as Principal Euphonium with the EYMS Band in Hull under the legendary Dr Bob Childs (arguably the greatest Euphonium player of all time). He arrived in New Zealand 15 years ago and directed Addington Brass until taking the baton with Canterbury Brass in 2005. Since then he has continued to be more and more in demand both as a soloist and conductor.

Speaking about the concert, the band’s Chairperson Julia Mallett said “we are very excited to be fundraising for such a meaningful charity and the band are delighted to be working with Davey for this important engagement.”

Pre-booking is essential and can be done by calling Clare Wilkinson on 03 365 1485 or 027 643 0566 or by e-mailing

The band is proud to be teeming up with such a worthwhile charity, to entertain with brass band classics, orchestral transcriptions, and contemporary tunes!

Ticket includes a fantastic concert and nibbles and refreashments during interval.

Come along to show your support and help children with cancer!
