Take one storyteller and add an illustrator. Combine in a 3 tonne dragon-ified ‘Little Red Riding Truck’. Mix two original NZ picture books, a story house, music, art and magic and ta-da, you have ‘The Batt and Bacon Catch a Story Tour.

This December, storyteller/author, Tanya Batt and illustrator/artist Helen Bacon hit the road in the ‘Little Red Riding’ truck to promote their two new picture books, ‘My Dad’s a Dragon Catcher’ and ‘Catching Fish’.

Over eight days, the pair will be giving 19 performances stretching from Waiheke Island to the Manawatu. The tour schedule includes schools, kindergartens, libraries and bookstores with an estimated 1000 plus children being visited.

The two original picture books are published by the New Zealand publishing house, Clean Slate Press. They were released in September and have been receiving great reviews.

"Catching Fish is a great read-aloud romp with beautiful collage-like illustrations, while My Dad’s a Dragon Catcher is full of colourful cartoonish illustrations and has the cutest heart-warming story. Perfect bed time story books." - Bookie Monster

“Charming and magical tale." - NZ Herald Canvas

The ‘Catch a Story Tour’ is no ordinary book launch. Helen and Tanya, self-confessed frock-o-holics will be fabulously costumed and their show includes storytelling, music and art pieces created by Helen.

The two stories will be presented using a unique illustrated storytelling format called ‘The Story House’. Tanya believes storytelling should actively encourage an audience’s participation. As part of each session, children will have a chance to ‘Catch and Create’ their own story using the Story House.
