the art of remembering - another hybrid memory both actual and artificial...
Following on from the artist’s current exhibition at Lopdell House Gallery comes some initial success in the 2012 Cliftons Art Prize.
Clay Bodvin’s photomedia painting has been selected as one of 15 finalists for the Auckland regional competition.
For this type of work, patterns and textures are merged with two or three images from Bodvin’s usable past (courtesy of old family photos and travel snapshots) creating a new visual narrative. More richly-textured evidence that memories are both actual and artificial at the same time.
The Auckland Finalists exhibition will run for 4 weeks, starting May 21, at Cliftons' corporate headquarters. During the exhibition the public is also invited to vote for their favourite regional entry in the ‘People's Choice’ Award.
The exhibition concludes with Award Evenings in each of Cliftons 10 Asia Pacific facilities, awarding a local artist AU$2,000. The best creative submission across all Cliftons venues will win the Cliftons Art Prize, receiving AU$10,000.
Further details and tickets for the free award evening can be obtained from the Cliftons-Art-Prize website. Go to Diary Dates and register for Auckland.
