Holidays and special days, like Christmas or anniversaries, can be an especially tough time for those facing the changes, losses and grief of bereavement. Many bereaved people dread them. These times may remind you of how things have changed, and of the people, places or events you’re missing. Memories at this time can be both wonderful and painful. This very practical workshop will give you some helpful ideas and strategies to get through these times. It will include lots of ideas for children and teens as well as adults - because memories matter and grief can be really tough to deal with. It will also assist the work of support professionals and community support workers.

Tricia Irving Hendry is Skylight's Deputy Chief Executive and has a special interest in seeing New Zealand families/whānau effectively supported when they are impacted by change, loss, trauma and grief - whatever the cause and whatever their age. Tricia regularly presents workshops nationwide with an interactive, practical, down to earth and engaging style. She has authored and co-authored a wide range of popular Skylight publications to support children, young people, adults and their families/whānau through different issues, including Something Has Happened, When Tough Stuff Happens, Death Without Warning, What Happens next? and After a Suicide. She has a background in secondary teaching, youth work and community support work and has also encountered difficult loss and tragedy in her own life.
