Double Trouble: The Midnights & Newtown Rocksteady

Newtown Rocksteady and The Midnights will play one double billing at the San Francisco Bath House. With both bands equally renowned for their own take on vintage reggae, ska and rocksteady, and support band Sankofa International Percussion Ensemble warming up the d-floor with some ultra deep roots rhythms; audiences are in for one sweaty night of dancing.

A homecoming for three of The Midnights members, the Auckland 5-piece is readying themselves to deliver a lean and mean set of raw and eclectic rhythms on the night.

While Newtown Rocksteady will be defending their home turf with a fresh set of tunes, a sprawling line up of around 12 musicians, and guest vocalists that include Israel Starr, Ras Stone and Roy G smashing out some classic style for your evening.

About a year ago when The Midnights’ Leo Horgan stumbled into a bizarre, “Down the Rabbit Hole” themed Thorndon house party and witnessed a mushroom-fuelled Newtown Rocksteady he decided he would meet them and one day play with them – but then did nothing about it. Luckily fate had his back.
