Cory, who is 4yrs old, was diagnosed with an Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma Tumor in January this year, and it was also removed immediately. He then started 12 hours of intensive chemotherapy on the 3rd of February in Auckland. He now receives treatment in Rotorua every week, but every 3rd week must travel to Auckland for more intensive 12 hr chemo. The Joseph family have had their world turned upside down. Cory has gone from a day care kid who enjoys his friends, loved playing outside with his pets and trains, to becoming a sick tired boy who is not allowed to go to daycare, too tired to go outside and not able to play with is animals because his immune system is non-existant, and he could pick up all sorts of bugs. His life is now full of scans, blood tests, clinics visits, chemo, taking medication all the time, needles in his leg and a chemotherapy port on the right side of his tiny body.

Cory is in the 12th week of chemo and has already got over 75 beads of courage, that's a lot for a young boy in a short period of time, just shows you how much he has been through. It is very difficult for his parents to watch their child go through something like this and they can not do a thing to help him. The shock has been terrible for them to have a perfectly healthy energetic 4yr old son and within 12 weeks a very sick little boy with no hair, very pale and no energy. Cory has another 5 years to go before his parents will know if he is clear of cancer or not. They do not even know how long the treatment will be, this depends on how Cory responds and if he stays clear from infection. After the story was printed in the Ngongotaha Journal some driven Ngongotaha community members got together and decided they needed to help in any way they could, acknowledging the fact each person had in some way been affected directly with cancer. Overwhelmed by the result and the support from the community body they formed a group called the Ngongotaha Crusaders! who are organising a Family Fun Day and Walk, hoping relieve some financial pressure off the Joseph family, and together share a day of remembrance for those who have battled against cancer and illness, those who are struggling with illness or who those who have passed away.

The event has been organised by the generosity of local businesses, local people and hard work from the committee, the event is similar to the Walk for Life, team or individual event but is 4hr total as that's Cory's age. There will be loads of games for kids of all ages to participate, fantastic raffles and giveaways, and a live auction of goods ranging from gift baskets to accommodation packages, white water rafting, fire wood, electronics, art and much, much more.

Live entertainment from NZ profile band NRG Rising (head line) and regional Battle of the Bands winners Copious Ail and many more.

The event will go ahead rain, hail or snow, on the Ngongotaha Domain rugby fields. 100% of money raised will be donated to Cory Joseph's family.

For team or individual registration & enquires please contact Janina Khan or Missy Hale 07-3574195.

Please give 4hrs out of your life for a precious little boy.
