The display profiles silk-screen prints and ink drawings by New Zealand artists John Panting and Carl Sydow, who both grew up in Palmerston North. Both Sydow and Panting were sculptors who studied visual art in New Zealand and England in the 1960s. Upon their return to New Zealand, they each pioneered modern sculpture. The style of their sculptures was based on formal abstraction - the investigation of the properties of line and form. This display of silk-screen prints and ink drawings provides insight into the 3D sculptural practices of these artists.

This display is presented by Te Manawa Museum of Art, Science and History in collaboration with the Te Manawa Art Society.

Wellington based sculptor, Peter Trevelyan will be create a sculpture in the gallery from 3-13 July in response to the artworks of John Panting and Carl Sydow.
