Frances Krsinich lives in Paekakariki and works in Wellington as a mathematical statistician. A self-taught painter, she has been showing her work around the Kapiti Coast in various group shows for the last decade and earlier this year had her first solo show, Weeded Interior, at Pataka Museum of Arts and Cultures. Krsinich’s images in Coat of Arms at Mahara Gallery use heraldic imagery to explore symbols of identity and the contradictory tension - between heroism and self-protection - involved in the ongoing creative act of ‘branding’ ourselves in how we relate to the world. She says, ‘We are the superheroes of our own private worlds.’
