Ticket Information:

A pre-competition trout workshop & registration for the Lower Waikato River Trout Contest 2012, where we will be informed on a range of topics by experts such as Chris Annandale (DOC Fisheries) with samples of some of the uncommon freshwater fish species, Bert Robinson (Rotorua & Waikato trout guru), John Charteris (Organiser) with results from the trout analysis so far, & Michael Lynch, covering tackle & fishing methods plus the Lake Puketirini project.

A fly-tying demo will demonstrate how easy it is to make your own flies for this fishery, & there is a good selection of "local" softbaits, spinners, flies and assorted tackle available to purchase at great prices from Sweetman's Reel Fishin'.

New methods of trout cuisine will be presented with the return of our popular Chef Mike Geelen (with sample tastings!), and as usual there will be the odd smoked trout about.

A practical session is planned at the nearby delta, the confluence of the Waipa & Waikato rivers, where a casting competition with prizes for all ages and other events are planned. There is a "guess the weight of this trout" competition also, with a great first prize.

Entries for the 2012 Lower Waikato river trout contest can be taken at this workshop, and 2012/13 licences and free fishing guides are available. Optional dinner at the RSA will follow the workshop, with big screen viewing of the rugby.

This is a "must go" event for anyone interested in learning how to fish this area. It's a great family or friends occasion.

Michael Lynch, secretary.
