Back-room chords and front porch harmonies. The Gazebo Girls play alt country - short for alternative country: the place where folk, blues, bluegrass, rock and country meet. Some songs are as old as the hills they came from, some were written just yesterday. From down and dirty, rowdy and ragged songs about whisky and trucks and love that’s true to fragile and haunting songs that touch the heart.

Armed with a heap of contemporary and vintage songs, guitar, mandolin and more harmonies than you can shake a stick at, New Plymouth alternative country and folk acoustic duo The Gazebo Girls play a hometown gig for the first time since being one of the feature acts and an audience favourite at this year’s Wellington Folk Festival.

Penni Bousfield (vocals, guitar) has collaborated and performed with many of NZ’s top acoustic musicians, including Brendan Power, Mahinarangi Tocker, the Topp Twins and Helena Faust.

Janet Muggeridge (vocals, mandolin, guitar) plays a World War 1 mandolin and a mandolin handmade in the 'Naki. She is also a member of Gumboot Tango, the New Plymouth Kiwiana band formed for the first Taranaki Arts Festival in the '90s.

Their CD "The Ragged Edge" will be released in November.
