Karl Steven of Supergroove hits Masterton with new band Heart Attack Alley for exclusive warm-up show.

Heart Attack Alley get ready for their tours of NZ and Europe on the back of their forthcoming album release with an exclusive warm-up show in Masterton. The band - an explosive trio that pumps out a ferociously catchy combination of '50s & '60s rhythm & blues - featuring Karl Steven of Kiwi legends Supergroove as well as members of indie-heroes Vietnam War and Drab Doo Riffs are due to release their new album soon and believe a bowling alley is the very epitome of rock 'n' roll and the perfect place to roadtest the new material in front of a live audience. "The new album is due in the spring and we're going to take it on a tour of NZ and Europe. I can't wait to get on the road again and it'll be good to kick it all off in a bowling alley too - they were made for Rock n Roll", says lead singer Caoimhe Macfehin.

Karl, it seems, has mixed views on bowling but like Caoimhe he's thrilled at the prospect of launching things at the venue in the Wairarapa. "I've always resisted 10 pin bowling out of a fear of slipping down the alley in those house shoes, being decapitated by the ball return system, and having my head rolled for a strike by my opponents. It's a metaphor for life that I must have seen in a movie or comic book somewhere but I'm really looking forward to facing those fears with Heart Attack Alley in Masterton."

Advance album tracks are already getting regular plays on UK radio and have found favour with the likes of cutting edge DJ John Kennedy of XFM - Britain's biggest independent station who raved "it's an absolutely fantastic sound" on-air recently after playing songs from the forthcoming record.

Katie Grantham and Mark Rogers of promoters Up With People believe it's the perfect way to follow up their forthcoming Night At The Museum show with Barry Saunders and Silver Scroll winning songwriter Delaney Davidson at Aratoi in Masterton on August 26th and despite offers to put Heart Attack Alley on at a larger venue for a potentially bigger pay-day they made the decision to keep it low-key.

"Considering the band's status it would have been easy to put on a big gig for them but the whole aesthetic of a fantastic hard-hitting band in a bowling alley is too good to resist", say Rogers and Grantham. "By also keeping numbers limited we know that everyone who makes it through the door will have the chance to see an exclusive show in an intimate atmosphere that will definitely take the roof off the place. And to make sure everyone can afford it and we give lucky ticket buyers a night to remember we're doing advance tickets for a bargain $7.50. It'll definitely be one of those nights".

Tickets will be on sale from Masterbowl (06 377 7352) and Vinyl Heaven (06 378 6688) in Masterton from August 1st.
