Using their Celtic roots as a base and adding elements of rock, rap, funk and dance music, Jacky Tar’s unique sound is a reflection of the cultural melting pot that is New Zealand.

"A whirlwind of Celtic, rock, alternative and dance influences...Imagine the Mekons let loose on Irish and Scots traditional forms... " - Froots, UK.

Jacky Tar are coming back to Nelson for the first time in over a year. They have just recovered from St Patrick's Day and will be making a short trip across the Cook Strait before the winter sets in.

A combination of drums, bass, mandolin, banjo, pipes, fiddle, guitars and vocals, they have produced three recordings: 'Poor Mans Labour' (1999), 'Defenestration' (Finalist NZ Music awards 2002), and, in 2005, 'Splatt!!' Their sound has been described as 'new world music', and has seen them tour Europe to huge acclaim. In recent years they have been cutting back on the live shows while members follow other projects but with some new line up additions and new material they have lost none of their renowned energy and drive.

The line up of the band is now:
Andy Kerr (guitar, vocals, bodhran);
Nick Swan (banjo, mandolin, guitar, vocals);
Manu Scott (bass);
Mark Hamill (drums);
Paul Turner (pipes, whistles, harmonica).
