The New Zealand Cycle Trail is making its way to our part of New Zealand.

Cycling is a great way to travel. It offers a close up view of the world at a slower pace, and is made even more enjoyable when the route is relatively free of traffic.

Locally, our piece of the New Zealand Cycle Trail is known as Manawatu Cycleway on The Country Road, and is an alternative to the busy highways. It goes from Mangaweka to Palmerston North City via Apiti, Rangiwahia, the Pohangina Valley East Road and Ashhurst.

To celebrate, the public is invited to ride the Bridle Track to The Square. The short distance is ideal for families, and as riders enter The Square, they'll be treated to a free concert featuring local musicians, Graeme James Crehan and Jemma Cheer.

Ride details:
Riders will depart from Palmerston North City Bridle Track, Riverside Drive Road from 11:30, and regroup at 12:30pm and 1:30pm at Fitzherbert Bridge to ride the final 2km to The Square.

Celebration details:
Live music and speeches fun from 12:30-3pm. Pack some spare change for a hearty snack and a coffee available at the event, or bring a picnic and enjoy the atmosphere.
