Come and learn the Big Apple, a classic Frankie Manning group routine. This is a fun and crazy solo jazz routine from the 1930s.

You will need good co-ordination and a slight knowledge of vernacular jazz to pick up the moves easily, although we will be breaking down the moves so you can learn the intricate steps. Anyone with a background in swing, tap or jazz should be able to easily follow this routine.

We are hoping to perform the entire routine at the next Tuxedo Swing event on the 20th of May, which only gives us 4 weeks to learn it!

The block however is 6 weeks long so you will be able to master the entire routine.

Class numbers will be limited due to the size of our venue so first in first served. Sign up to the sweet block deal to ensure you get a place in the class every single week.

What is Whitey's Big Apple?

"The Big Apple is the routine choreographed by Frankie Manning for the Whitey's Lindy Hoppers (Frankie, Norma Miller, Al Minns, Leon James, etc). You can see them perform in the 1938 movie "Keep Punchin." The Big Apple contains those early jazz moves that are the back bone to Lindy Hop. Once you learn these jazz moves not only can you join in on the Big Apple routine when it's done at dances, camps, jams, etc but you can also add those jazz movements into your Lindy Hop to spice up your footwork and social dancing." excerpt from
