Overview: The Films in Our Lives is a fascinating three-part screen and media series, which is open to all members of the public who have a passion for the art of film. The second presentation in the series is presented by Roger Horrocks, who will talk about two of his favourite film-makers, Len Lye and Vincent Ward. By discussing sample sequences by these film-makers, he will explore the questions “How do we look closely at moving images, and how do we talk about them?” Roger has had a close connection with both film-makers: he worked as Len Lye’s assistant during the last year of the film-maker’s life and is regarded internationally as an authority on his work; he has also known Vincent Ward’s work for over 30 years and was asked by Ward to write an essay on his work for his recent book Inhale / Exhale.

He wrote the libretto for the opera “Len Lye” (based on Lye’s life) performed this September at the Maidment Theatre in Auckland.
