Rockabilly raconteur Lindon Puffin is one of those crazy people that shifted back to Christchurch in the immediate aftermath of the February quake. Joining forces with fellow Lytteltonians The Eastern, Delany Davidson & The Unfaithful Ways, Puffin helped produce the fundraising Harbour Union album before returning to his solo work. Both the Harbour Union & Puffin’s own album ‘Hope Holiday’ made the top 10 in 2011 and he was recently shortlisted for the NZ Apra Silver Scroll Song of the Year. Hope Holiday has been receiving rave reviews with Graham Reid from the NZ Herald awarding it 4.5 stars and describing it as ‘Tom Petty like swirling pop which hints at Crowded House & New Wave equally” while Marty Duda of Radio NZ awarded it 2nd best NZ album of the year & 12th best international release of 2011.

Cut from the cloth of the musical troubadour, Puffin spends half his life on the road performing up to 150 shows a year. During August & September this year you may have caught him & his good mates from The Eastern as they took their foot stomping roof raising ‘Lyttelton Rough House Revival’ tour around the country following which he hopped straight back in the van to play support for the legendary British Folk Punk Icon Billy Bragg on his recent sell-out tour of NZ. Along with his upbeat original songs, Puffin has a reputation for hilarious stage banter, quirky covers & mean kazoo playing!

But the real measure of success here in Godzone is when there is a question about you in the Stuff.co.nz daily quiz! (Oct 28) From there on it’s all downhill and before you know it you’ll have been put out to pasture and find yourself playing on the winery summer tour circuit. Therefore while he still has a glimmer of life & a smidge of integrity about him, come see him perform at Malt Bar.

Without the band, the man alone will perform a gallant mash up of his own rockabilly folk punk, bastardised covers of Bowie through the Front Lawn all loosely tied together with lashings of anarchic banter.
