Manuel Bundy bio:

It seems fitting that the Manuel Bundy card should apparently be the most sought after of the 11 trading cards produced by Auckland label Sugarlicks to promote its recent 'Ultrasound' compilation. The veteran DJ has been a fixture on the New Zealand dance scene for nearly 20 years now. But while he has only released a couple of solo tunes, Bundy has contributed beats and scratches to numerous artists' albums including Nathan Haines' 'Shift Left', Mark de Clive-Lowe's 'Six Degrees', Nuvonesia's 'Island of Nuvonesia' and OMC's 'How Bizarre.' He also toured the world with OMC in the mid '90s at the height of How Bizarre's chart-topping success.

Born and raised in Auckland on a steady diet of taro, tape decks, kung fu movies and arcade games, a very sick Manuel Bundy got hooked on a life long vinyl addiction around 1984. Eventually finding solace on the wheels of steel he played his first gig in 1987, then a year later started spinning tunes at various joints around town.

20 years on and he's still rockin' and rollin' with the punches and bass lines. Besides being a main player at crucial hangouts like The Shortland Bar, Box, Cause Celebre, then Khuja Lounge and Rakinos, Bundy also blessed the radio waves via Base FM with his usual concoction of abstract hip hop, ghetto soul and deep funk. On the production tip there have been collaborations with many of Aotearoa's finest such as Nathan Haines, Che Fu, Mark de Clive Lowe and Sola Rosa to name just a few. 2007 saw the release of Bundy's solo project, ‘Solephonic', a 5 track EP, which at the moment is the highest selling slab of vinyl at Conch Records.
