Enter a world where big dreams are realised on a small scale as local Meccano enthusiasts show off intricate models.

The three-day display is assembled by members of the Auckland Meccano Guild and Wellington Meccano Club. It includes a wide range of models of various themes and sizes, both old and relatively new.

Models on display are static and moving, big and small – and many are fascinating. The display includes a range of Meccano memorabilia, including the famous number 10 set.

Visitors have the opportunity to get hands on with a range of models, and modellers are available to answer questions.

What is Meccano?
Meccano celebrated its 111th birthday in January 2012. The earliest Meccano construction sets comprised perforated metal plates, strips, and girders, which – when joined together with nuts and bolts – enabled the creation of models as diverse as could be imagined.

As the years passed, wheels, axles, pulleys, gears, clockwork motors, steam engines, and electric motors were added to the sets for sale.

The style and size of Meccano sets has changed through the years to meet new technology developments, but Meccano has remained true to the original standards of its inventor, Frank Hornby. This means that parts produced in 1901 easily integrate with Meccano sets on sale today.

Held in the Wellington Foyer, Level 2.
