Outstanding German pianist Michael Endres performs world wide as a soloist and chamber music partner. He has recorded no fewer than 27 CDs, playing Mozart, Schubert and Carl Maria v. Weber, plus Ravel’s complete works for piano. Kapiti's discerning musical audience will have a rare treat when Mulled Wine Concert organiser Mary Gow presents Michael Endres at the Paekakariki Memorial Hall.

“The Mulled Wine Concert series is becoming widely known for the quality of its performances and this will be no exception”, says Gow. “Our audience has in the past been drawn not only from Kapiti, but the entire lower North Island. Visitors can enjoy Paekakariki's laid-back charm, its wonderful beaches, sea and island views, and excellent cafes, topped off by a first rate piano concert by a major artist”. As Michael Houstoun has written of his own Paekakariki concert experience: “... it is more about the intimacy, the receptivity, the palpable atmosphere of all leaves a lovely afterglow.”

Endres is currently Professor for Piano on the faculty of Canterbury University. He holds a Masters Degree from the Juilliard School, New York and has enjoyed a distinguished career as a musical academic in Germany, while performing as a soloist and accompanist. He has performed in venues such as Covent Garden, London; Suntory Hall, Tokyo; Musikverein, Vienna and La Scala, Milan and is a regular invitee to festivals such as Newport USA, Beethoven Festival Bonn, and the Salzburg Festival. At Paekakariki, Endres will present Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: “6 songs without words” Opus 19, Franz Schubert's: “Sonata in G major”, Opus 78 and Robert Schumann's: “Carnaval” Opus 9, which he describes as “... one of Schumann's most outgoing, colorful creations, a bravura display of romantic piano writing in all its excesses and eccentricities”.

The concert is to be held in the Paekakariki Memorial Hall – a rather special venue for high-level music. It is a simple hall with a unique beach-front location giving views across to Kapiti Island and the South Island of New Zealand. The floor and walls are high-quality timbering, which contribute to the excellent clarity of the acoustics and serve as a beautiful background to the works of local artists placed there by Mulled Wine Concerts, who try to convey the chamber music atmosphere. The piano for the concert will be supplied by Kingdom Music, Lower Hutt.
