Kiwimusicana: a solo, acoustic performance of songs from the lighter side of Kiwi ‘culture’, the daggier end of homegrown humour.

Songs from small towns, and back-country roads, from the radio and rodeo, the city and the shed. Love songs, pub-songs, pop-songs, dogsongs, “Down-The-Hall-On-Saturday-Night” songs.

Mike Harding, a musical storyteller at ease with his instrument, his audience and his personal journey singing the songs of our present and our past, takes us from our folk roots to where we are now.

Kiwimusicana - celebrating NZ, its people and their stories.

Mike is one of our club’s favourite acoustic performers. Recent years have seen the wandering minstrel living in New Plymouth, teaching guitar and being a family man while still performing Kiwi music solo or with Taranaki combo Gumboot Tango.

Mike is at his best in an intimate, acoustic setting where affectionate humour and spontaneity are guaranteed and where his pre-song, scene-setting can be fully enjoyed. In a typical performance, Mike will call on songs from or about the past, folk-songs from the days of the European explorers and settlers through to the present, including the work of contemporary rock songwriters.

What the critics say: "a soothing, amusing and highly entertaining performance, a break of fresh air, a vivid reminder of where many of us came from and who we are" - Hawkes Bay Herald.

"The rollicking sense of fun that Harding brings to his live performances" - Music in New Zealand.

"Words with the clarity of a mountain stream, a voice rich and gravelly, honed over the years from Bluff to the Far North" - Daily News.

"Mike has the ability to load his powerful woody voice with the subtle mélange of strength, warmth and the right amount of human sensitivity" - New Zealand Musician.

"A natural line in homespun chatter... left an impression of a lively and good-natured entertainer” - Press.

Complimentary supper around 9pm.
