The October School Holiday Programme 2012

Zombie Film Fun!
Monday 1 October
You’ll need an old past-it t-shirt to rip to shreds. Make scar tissue, decorate yourself up (or down) and then act out your worst zombie nightmare on film, with Rose. Make zombie cupcakes and play monster games at lunch!

Mapping Our Town
Tuesday 2 October
Visit Ohinemutu, the Old Bathhouse, the Govt Gardens & other Rotorua landmarks with your digital camera, and photograph them all. Return to the art room with Geoffrey, choose your favourite shot to print out on our printer and then age your photos, mounting them to board. Finish them by painting and crackling them to look like they’ve been here forever.

Create a Character
Wednesday 3 October
Explore the different ways that you can be someone else with our theatre favourite Val Dyson. Words, movement, voice, feelings. Being in somebody else’s shoes is what an actor does. Rose returns in the afternoon to take you through your paces acting out some lines and recording them. Fun acting days.

Sculpture With Trish
Thursday 4 October
Day 1 - skeleton sculptures. Make it, dress it, paint it. Mexican Catrina’s from Day of the Dead, all Halloween-like...

Friday 5 October
Day 2 - Freaky animal assemblage.
Make your own creature out of assorted parts. Frankenstein, eat your heart out. Bring along old toys from home that can be cut up and re-made to suit your imagination.

Although not essential, it is recommended that your child do both days with Trish. This will allow for proper drying and painting time to finish the work to a higher standard.

Super Portraits
Monday 8 October
Trish D’Muth gets you to explore faces. Make your own Mexican style retablo
portrait using fake gold, then get to try a modern dotty Lichtenstein style portrait.

Drawing Birds With Geoffrey Cox
Tuesday 9 October
Walk to Sulphur Point to observe and sketch birds in the wild, then return to the studio, where Geoffrey Cox will teach you how to make your bird pictures ‘come alive’ in paint and pencil.

Cartoon Chaos
Wednesday 10 October
Rose is back with a day of cartoon chaos. Learn some techniques for colourful storytelling. Create your own characters, then draw them into a comic
book, make the cover.

Thurs & Fri Oct 11/12
In the Tang-a-lang Garden for some wild & wonderful community art making performance adventuring together.

For the Rotorua Arts Village's 10 Year Birthday Celebrations

Play sweet music, make a hat / mask, present a costume or a surprise Dress the Birthday Tree dance with the sky, build a world within a world.

Then, on early Friday evening, bring picnic party food to share together alongside games, dance, music and surprises. An informal evening of magic for a special birthday. For humans of all ages who love to play. Bring your family, friends and neighbours.

Children must come with a caregiver.

What you need to bring:
Your smile. Your fun playful self. If you wish to contribute in other ways:
i) we would love you to bring from home any no longer needed: colourful gift-wrapping, baubles and buttons, ribbons, sparkles and fabric scraps, neglected toys, trinkets and other possibilities which could be transformed into magic in the garden.
ii) bring along your musical instruments and play for us, plus any other fun things: bubble wands, stilts, your dancing shoes, your magic tricks.
iii) gold coin donations (which will go towards little extras for the party picnic tea).
