Plimmerton's Mid-Winter Dip is coming - are you ready to take the plunge?

The time is fast approaching for intrepid souls to show what they’re made of and take the plunge at Plimmerton Kindergarten’s annual mid-winter dip at Karehana Bay, Plimmerton.

Festivities and registration will begin at 11am with the swim itself at noon.

This will be the 16th time the dip has been held and it has become one of the region’s most anticipated events. It is a chance for people to celebrate the season and challenge themselves to brave the elements.

The event always attracts a wide variety of participants, co-organiser Shona Croasdale says.

“We get all ages in the water from kindy kids who don’t seem to feel the cold right through to those but are probably old enough to know better!” she says. “But what they all have in common is a sense of fun”.

Swimmers include first-timers and people from the wider Wellington region who have been taking the plunge every year since the dip began.

Those not keen to take the plunge can still enjoy festivities from the shore where there will be a gala atmosphere and fun for all the family, including activities for kids, raffles, cakes and of course lots of hot food and coffee. Many swimmers dress up and there will be prizes for the best costumes as well as fantastic spot prizes.

Every year the event is supported by many local businesses and this year’s major sponsors are Firth Industries Ltd and Aardvark Concrete 2000 Ltd.
