This engaging documentary recounts the story of The Funk Brothers who recorded more hits than The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Beach Boys. The uncredited and largely unheralded studio musicians were the hand picked house band who recorded and performed on Motown recordings from 1959 to 1972.

It was their sound, according to Mary Wilson of the Supremes, that backed The Temptations, The Supremes, The Miracles, the Four Tops, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and other noteworthy bands during their time at Motown.

2002, directed by Paul Justman. Rated PG. 116 mins.
