A community-oriented event where the local and wider community is invited to watch New Zealand sculptors create large scale artworks in a public space. It offers $2000 for the winning artwork, but also allows people of all ages and nationalities to gather and watch art in action. There will be children’s creative stations, coffee and food stalls as well as discussions on public art.

Children’s activities include:
Flax boat making: Sat 11am-1pm;
Flag making: Sat 10am-3pm, Sun 10am-1pm.

Produce a flag which will become part of an ever-changing sculpture, onsite for the duration of the symposium.

The Scuplture Symposium is part of the inaugural Arts Festival Out East.
