Overview:

Writing. A basic skill for public relations and communication practitioners but we learn it ‘on the hoof’ or as we go, with little opportunity to stop and reflect on how well we are actually doing it.

This session is designed to build confidence in your writing ability, take a fresh look at words and how they work, review some of the basics and experiment with some of the many writing genres that punctuate our days.

- General principles, grammar and meaning
- Common mistakes and problems
- News writing - key principles
- Report writing - research and presentation
- Proposals - language that sells and persuades
- Letters and email - avoiding disasters
- Writing for the web - understanding how we read

Facilitator:

Catherine Arrow has 30 years experience as a public relations practitioner, journalist and communicator to share. Prior to her arrival in New Zealand, she ran her own award-winning independent public relations consultancy, serving clients in both the private and public sector. A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (UK) and one of the first UK Accredited Practitioners, Catherine also undertakes the design and provision of training and professional development programmes for PRiNZ professionals and others around the world working to improve their skills. She specialises in the development and application of new communications channels, helping clients and organisations with on-line reputation management, e-comms and online public relations since the early 1990s and social media since its inception. A regular blogger, Catherine serves as a board member for the Global Alliance.
