Photospace Gallery opened in December 1998 at a time when there was no extant photography gallery. It remains one of two dedicated photography galleries operating in New Zealand.

How do we include and acknowledge everyone who's ever exhibited at Photospace Gallery? Well, there exists a complete set of posters, running from Auckland photographer Kerry-Ann Boyle's 'The Mortal Dress' to the exhibition poster for the exhibition of exhibition posters, December 2013. The collection of posters will occupy most of the gallery space. Many of the posters represent two or even three simultaneous solo exhibitions in the gallery. These are mainly NZ-based photographers from all over the country as well as other artists working in mediums that include and intersect with photography in some way. Some names appear only once, others many times. Wellington photographer Andrew Ross holds the record, as he has been one of the mainstays of the gallery since having exhibited there at least annually since March 1999. A suite of photos he took in the Peter McLeavey Gallery in Wellington will remain on show during the poster exhibition. Some of the other well-known photographers represented in the posters are Peter Black, Siren Deluxe, Ben Cauchi and John B Turner.

There will be a small selection of photographs from private collections that have been acquired from Photospace Gallery over the years, displayed in a separate gallery room.

The exhibition opens on December 6th with a birthday celebration, and continues till 17th January 2014. Photospace will be closed from 24th December till 4th January, inclusive.
