As an outlet, creating posters offers so many opportunities to explore artistically. While their primary purpose is advertising, a great poster lives on in people’s homes, on bedroom and living room walls as art. Explore concept, layout, typography, composition, imagery and hierarchy.

The first part of this workshop will cover various skills and techniques regarding software such as Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash. Then you will design a gig poster, a medium unique in its ability to be simultaneously straight-up advertising and art. Participants will design posters for real bands, so each person will be creating posters that will actually be used to advertise actual gigs around the country.

Hadley is an illustrator/animator/designer/comedian out of Wellington with an Honours Degree from the Wanganui School of Design. For close to a decade he’s been creating gig posters. Course runs over four days between the 7th and 10th of January.
