Discover the fascinating story of Napier’s heritage on this easy walking tour. The original town of Napier was levelled by a dramatic and devastating earthquake in 1931 but was completely rebuilt within a remarkable two year period in the contemporary style of the times; Art Deco. The city is now recognised as the most complete Art Deco city in the world.

Meet your guide at the Napier iSite for a fascinating walk through the city centre’s highlights, discovering along the way stories of the events, places and people that shaped this unique city.

The guided walking tour ends at the Art Deco Centre, 7 Tennyson Street, with an optional showing of the film 'The Day that Changed the Bay.' This short movie features archive footage of the devastating earthquake and tells the story of the earthquake and the city's remarkable recovery.

Book your tickets in advance online at, or buy on the day at the Art Deco Centre or Napier iSite.
