Synopsis:
Last of the Summer Wine was a British sitcom written by Roy Clarke, initially broadcast on BBC on 1st January 1973, followed by a series of episodes from November 1973 until 29th August 2010. The popular show was viewed in more than 25 countries. It was the longest running sitcom in the world. Several stage adaptions followed (of which our show is the latest rendition) from Roy Clarke.

The plot centres round three male characters who spend their retirement concocting farcical escapades in and around the village of Holmfirth in West Yorkshire.

The play is set in Cleggy's dining room at the bequest of Foggy hopefully to aid Foggy's chances of courting Constance, Nora Batty's niece. The antics that pursue during this comedy are true farcical entertainment.

Cast Required:
Norman "Cleggy" Clegg: 55+. Average height. Widowed, pessimistic, wry sense of humour, reserved and shy. Enjoys the simple things in life.

Walter “Foggy” Dewhurst: 55+. Tall. Former soldier who embellishes his exploits in WW2. Likes to be in charge.

William “Compo” Simmonite: 55+. Short, scruffy. Rarely worked for a living. Likeable rogue. Always on the scrounge.

Nora Batty: 55+. Widower, old fashioned, stoic, devoted to housework. Monument to classic Northern English Women. A bit of a battle-axe.

Gifford Dewhurst: 55+. Special Constable. Nemesis of Foggy. Stocky know-it-all especially about his WW2 antics.

Constance: 30’s to 40’s. Nora’s niece, appears naïve, overdressed, single. Engaged to Gifford for 14 years.

Flash: 40’s to 60’s. Great comic timing. Similar build to Foggy. Athletic and imaginative. Character actor.

Production Dates are 9th to 19th October 2013.
