Beginners Burlesque Class - 6 Week Course - $120.00.

This 6 week course is an introduction into the art of burlesque performance. No experience is required.

You will learn a bit about the history of burlesque, what is involved in a classic burlesque performance and be taught a burlesque striptease act. At the end of the course you have the opportunity to perform this act in a burlesque graduation showcase!

Throughout the course we will look at confidence building; stage presence and developing your own burlesque character and onstage persona.

At the end of the course you will also receive a burlesque style photo shoot, which will include individual photos and class photos.

Monday 22nd April – Intro. The first class will be an intro to burlesque – what is burlesque and where did it all start? We will start with some warm up exercises and begin learning the first part of our burlesque act.

Wear comfy, easy to move in clothing and bring a water bottle and a pair of heels. Feather boas and gloves will be provided.

Monday 29th April – Costuming and Intro to Character Development - This week you will learn the last part of the act. We will start to discuss costume options. This includes what to wear during your performance and how to pull off a tasteful striptease. If you wish to perform in the graduation show, you will need to provide your own costume (limited costume pieces will be available for you to loan courtesy of Alter Ego Costume Hire). We will also look at how to create your own burlesque persona.

Note – please be aware there is an element of implied nudity involved in burlesque performing. The routine can be altered slightly for each individual depending on your comfort level.

Monday 6th May – Character Development – Creating your Burlesque Persona - By this stage you will have started to think about your burlesque persona, so this week we will work on developing this further and practice performing as our burlesque character. You will learn how to use costume, body language, facial expression and audience interaction to express your characters individual style and personality while you perform.

Monday 13th May – Putting in all Together - By week four you will have learnt a complete burlesque routine and have your own stage name and persona. We will now put it all together in preparation for the graduation showcase. We will go over the routine and continue to practice performing in character, utilizing the stage presence and performance skills you have learnt so far.

Monday 20th May – Rehearsal - This week you will be rehearsing the performance you have learnt. We will be polishing our routine and looking into the finishing touches, such as stage makeup and hair styling. We go over some tips for when you are performing on stage, such as overcoming stage fright and costume ‘troubleshooting’.

Monday 27th May – Final Dress Rehearsal - You are now ready to make your debut burlesque performance! This week we will have our final full dress rehearsal before the showcase. We will also meet at the venue the day before the showcase (time and date to be confirmed) and have a walkthrough of the night.

The show will also feature performers from the Northern Dolls and guest acts. Each student will receive a complementary ticket for a friend/partner/family member.

Please note - Class is R18 and ladies only. Performing in the graduation show is optional.

Places in the class are limited so be sure to register asap! For more info or to register please email miss.cherry.devine@gmail.com.
