Brassed Off started out as a film starring Pete Postlewaithe and Ewan McGregor. Paul Allen adapted Mark Herman's hugely successful screenplay for the stage where the story's success continues. It is based on historical events - the closure of many coal mines following unpopular industrial reforms by Maggie Thatcher's government in the 1990's and the hardships suffered by those communities. Coal mining communities and brass bands have long, strong links.

Enjoy real Yorkshire humor, pathos, love, drama, fun and a great musical score!

The play is set in fictional Grimely where the collliery is set to close. Accountants say there is more money in it shut than ope, even after redundancy payments. It means 1,200 job losses, a dying town and the loss of its bras band. But under the leadership of Danny, coughing with coal-dusted lungs, the band is somehow transformed into British champions with local lass Gloria whipping up the money needed to get them to Albert Hall.
