Titirangi Festival’s ‘Encore Series’ returns

Last year the Titirangi Festival ran a series of concerts to celebrate the contribution of the Titirangi theatre to the local arts community, before it moved to new temporary premises along Portage rd.
The event, called the ‘Encore series’ was so successful the festival team have decided to run another series this October.

Sat 19th the final concert in the series is called ‘Celebration of the voice’. The night features two choirs, the ‘Grey Lynn community choir’ with a repertoire of world music and the “Voice Club’ lead by David Tillinghast singing a repertoire of popular tunes presented in innovative ways. Also on the bill a very special performance by Carolina Moon presenting songs of ancient Judea from her ‘Mother Tongue’ album, Carolina will be supported by guitarist Nigel Gavin and sax player Roger Manins. Local community ukulele group the ‘Fringe ukes’ will also make an appearance.

Other concerts in the series are ;
Fri 11th sees the return of festival favourites ‘Bluetrain’ featuring some of Auckland’s finest Jazz musicians and led by respected composer and pianist, Alan Brown. The band will be joined by the incomparable vocalist Cherie Mathieson (Sola Rosa / Mark de Clive Lowe) to perform a set of funky up-tempo pieces. Ace west Auckland guitarist Dan Sperber will also perform a solo set.

Sat 12th legendary 70’s acoustic band ‘Waves’ will perform a very rare concert in support of their recently re-issued and much loved self-titled album. They will double bill with the internationally recognized master acoustic guitar player Andrew White.
(if this concert sells out a matinee is likely to be offered).

Fri 18th in a night dubbed the ‘Monster Blues Night’, Swamp Thing perform their brand of muscular two piece blues and feature none other than Michael Barker from the John Butler trio. Dave Alley, fresh from a stint in Europe also joins the lineup with the rhythm section Rod Redgrave and Alex Griffiths , expect to also be entertained by Dean ‘Honey boy’ Morris laying down some mean slide guitar the young, edgy blues band ‘His Masters voice’.

Tickets to all concerts are available through Eventfinder and the Titirangi Pharmacy.

Numbers are strictly limited.
