"Pennies From Heaven" A night of Trans Tasman jazz not to be missed!

Hailed as “a splendid musical mind” by the Los Angeles Times, Mark Isaacs has achieved widespread international recognition as a pianist and composer working in both jazz and classical music.

He has performed as a classical pianist, conducted orchestras and as a classical concert hall composer he has composed around 100 major works, many commissioned by some of Australia’s most prestigious ensembles, orchestras and soloists and ranging across orchestral, chamber, choral, solo pieces as well as scores for film, television and the theatre.

As a jazz pianist he has toured extensively in Europe, Russia, Asia, the USA, Australasia and the Pacific performing at major festivals including the Tokyo Jazz Festival and Pori Jazz, Finland. He has collaborated with some of the most distinguished figures in international jazz including Dave Holland, Roy Haynes, Kenny Wheeler, Adam Nussbaum, Vinnie Colaiuta and Bob Sheppard and he has released 20 internationally-acclaimed recordings on labels such as ABC, Naxos, veraBra, Soundbrush and Vorticity as well as his own label Gracemusic.

For tonight’s concert Mark will explore the jazz standards tradition with this especially-formed ensemble named after a sweet and sublime classic from the Great American Songbook. He will be continuing collaboration along these lines and under this name hatched between Mark and Roger Manins in Sydney a decade or so ago.

Isaacs, with every release, has refined his systematic approach to post-modernity jazz to the point that his sound defines what jazz should sound like at the advent of the 21st Century ALL ABOUT JAZZ (USA)
