Brace yourself, the winter blues are coming...

Brace yourself for a blast of winter blues, because one of New Zealand’s favourite bluesmen, Darren Watson, is making a rare trip to Dunedin. The Wellington based award-winning songwriter is hitting the road South with just a trusty old acoustic guitar and his soul-warming voice.

Darren says “Dunedin’s the only place getting an extra special version of my new solo show “Darren Watson - One Voice, One Guitar, The Blues”. On Friday 16 August I’m playing at Plato alongside sets from two top South Island talents – The Eastern's Adam McGrath and your local boy and my good buddy Matt Langley. It’ll be a great mix of styles with a cohesive ‘man and his guitar’ sound over the evening.”

"It’s nice to get back to the basics with solo shows.” Says Darren “ We all love playing in our bands but there’s nothing like a good song stripped down to just voice and guitar. It’s a chance to really dig deep and express the individual character and story of each one.”

Darren Watson has spent almost three decades 'paying his blues dues' touring New Zealand and beyond with successful bands like Chicago Smoke Shop, and working alongside American and Kiwi blues legends Billy Boy Arnold and Midge Marsden.

Watson’s set will include his originals alongside classic blues songs from as far back as the 1920s. Renowned for his energetic performances and powerhouse vocals, Watson guarantees to play a varied mix “There’ll be some gentler emotional moments for sure, but plenty of good ol’ foot stompin’ blues to keep the crowd warm on a cold winter’s night”.

Fri 16 August, Dunedin, 8.30pm, Plato, with Matt Langley and Adam McGrath. Tickets $20 from /$25 on the door if not sold out prior.
