Eddie Clemens is well known on the contemporary art circuit. He is recognised for his scarily accurate observations of everyday life. Combined with notions of commercialisation and production, he often applies clever twists to things which are seemingly innocent. Conceived by Rotorua Museum, Ask the Dust is Clemens’ first ever Rotorua exhibition.

The title for the exhibition Ask the Dust, was inspired by one of his favourite books written by John Fante in 1939. It also suggests a subversiveness in Clemens’ approach, applying a clever twist to things which often appear relatively innocent on the surface. Bic pens on ball chains become a web complete with entrapped victims, while a standard executive desk chair counts down to some unknown, potentially ominous deadline.

Opening 20 February 2013.

Entry to this exhibition is included in Rotorua Museum’s admission price. Entry for Rotorua residents is free of charge with relevant ID.
